An ice storm is worse on powerlines than a snow storm. I actually drove from NC to SC in an ice storm. All you could see in the distance was blue flashes when the transformers were blowing. If a power outage from a snow storm takes more than 2 days to restore power it could be from lack of maintenance and upgrades that were deferred.
